Science and Technology libraries are designed to promote the internal productivity and speciality of the organization they represent. Knowledge is valued as core to the operation and success of the instution. The librarian is pivotal to accumulating and producing information vital for sustaining technical advances in the fields of science, medicine, and business. In this setting, the librarian's responsibility is to provide expediant, up-to-date, and accurate information to professionals who may be waiting for this information to make a critical business, military or medical decision.

Note: Although the SLA lists Military Libraries under their "Social Sciences" heading, the research done here focuses on scientific research facilities - accordingly, the authors have listed this document under Science & Technology Libraries.
